School Patrol Officer Program
The Demopolis Police Department established the first School Patrol Officer Program in February 2009. The Department felt the need to provide a safer learning and working environment for the students and teachers in the Demopolis School System. In order to provide this service, a Demopolis Police Officer has been assigned to each of the Demopolis City Schools fulltime. The School Patrol Officer Program has been very successful in the four schools in Demopolis. Our School Patrol Officer are required to attend and complete a 40 hour block of School Patrol Officer's Training before he or she is assigned to a school. This training helps the School Patrol Officers deal with problems such as school violence, gangs, drugs, weapons, and child abuse among other things.
DPD School Patrol Officers provides a positive role modeling opportunity, while developing good rapport with the students, staff, and parents. DPD School Patrol Officers also serve as a visible and active law enforcement figure representing the department in the City School System.
DPD School Patrol Officers must be thoroughly familiar with the juvenile law as it applies to the juvenile justice system. Our SPO's investigates any and all crimes which involves students, teachers, or any school employee. These School Patrol Officers act as a liaison between the Demopolis Police Department, the Demopolis City School Board of Education, and school administrators in all matters relating to any police activity on campus.
